This is the first book in The Royal Series. A fascinating book the writing was good. The plot was slightly confusing on what it was, but it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters intriguing. The characters were developed and thought out. Prosper a vampire and Spencer a human and they are the MC’s of this book. With secondary characters Parry, Davian, and Sienna, I think that some of the confusion was that it was a back and forth between Prosper & Spencer and then Parry & Davian with a little of Sienna thrown in. There wasn’t enough separation between the two couples. I felt a bit cheated like I didn’t get enough of either couple by themselves without the other taking up their time. I often find that trying to put two or more couples stories in one book doesn’t work that they need their own book. And this was the case for this one. I like the couples and the differences in them but just don’t feel like I got their individual stories just partials. There was humor, humans, vampire, family, deafness, scars, a king, life mate, new friends, Mpreg, missing parents, birth, sex and so much more in this book.
Here is a quote from the book, “When the Mistress took ill, Jael came here as she has training as a nurse. The silly woman wishes to return to him, as soon as the Mistress is well again.” Eamon disapproved. “She is not valued as you are by the Master. Her Master does not love her and never will’ his life mate died many decades ago and Jael is nothing more than a human replacement. When she is too old, he will cast her aside and find another,” he rambled on, clearly trying to make a point.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can recommend it is worth a read, you may not have the problems that I did. The story idea was good and likeable. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
I went in knowing this a Mpreg book but I didn't know was that it set in the future, where vampires now rule the world. Now Spencer being born deaf he should have been killed at birth but was not. So many times in this book I would forget that Spencer was deaf he is an amazing person, and all he wants is a family of his own. He gets that and more with the Vampire King Prosper. Prosper never thought he would have anyone in life let alone love him for who he is with his scares and all. I still can't get over how Spencer walked into Prosper life and change everything even his twin brother, Parry who I fell in love with. This is a must read if you like Mpreg.
Poor writing, bad plot, no world building worth the name.
I am really sorry that I spent any time/money/thought on this book.
Here are some of my objections
Son is getting dimmer - not in ANY kind of near future (millions of years), so PLEASE do not try to sell me such nonsense. Put the plot in some other dimension/planet/universe if you want, but do NOT mess with physics!
Because our Sun gets dimmer we revert to Victorian age, and live shorter lives - PLEASE!!!!! Most of energy sources do not depend on the Sun (nuclear, hydro, coal, oil), crops do, but to keep crops up, you need energy, so reverting to Victorian type of production means killing off more than the half of population, and there is no mention of THAT. Also Victorians did not live shorter lives, they died younger, which is not the same (length of life depended on its quality, not genes). Here it is implied that lives got shorter genetically speaking.
Vampires came forth to bring rules and peace to humans - REALLY????
King of vampires was so hideous that no one wanted to have sex with him (including the prostitutes) - PLEASE!!!! First of, as he was described, it was NOT so bad, and second, highly paid prostitutes DO know how to do their job well, so do not try to sell me the story of poor ugly virginal vampire king!!!
I will not go further, because, really!!!!
Good ideas but disjointed and garbled. Needs an editor and a rewrite. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone without it being seriously reworked.
There was absolutely no lasting conflict in the book, it made for a boring read.
This book had potential. I did not finish it and frankly it did not read like a polished, finished story. More careful editing is recommended. While I liked the characters and was interested in what happened to them, there were too many instances where one would say something, and then a few pages later the other character would ask the same question again, and the reader would receive duplicate information.
I stopped reading the book about 2/3 of the way through. The story skipped around a lot and I found myself backing up to reread things just to make sure I hadn't missed something....and I hadn't...it was just something that you would think was supposed to be significant, like the first time the MC has time to have a real conversation with his real parents, but it was barely mentioned in an offhand manner between sex scenes. I've rarely ever put a book down before finishing, but I found myself losing interest more and more as the story progressed until I decided that it wasn't worth finishing.
